今天要和大家说两个很常见的单词，ear和mark。我们都知道ear是耳朵的意思，而mark可以指人名，也可以指标记、标识、记号或者符号。

但是如果是组合在一起的earmark，是什么意思呢？

earmark 划拨（款项）;指定…作特定用途

Five billion dollars of this year's budget is already earmarked for hospital improvements.

已从今年的预算中划拨出50亿美元专门用于改善医院设施。

The cash may be earmarked for feast money for weddings and deaths, or used for personal purposes.

这些钱可能被指定用于婚礼或葬礼，或用于个人目的。

还有一个很有意思的表达，今天也分享给大家。“an ear of corn”是什么意思呢？



它并不是说玉米的耳朵，“an ear of corn”说的其实是“玉米穗”，因为“ear”除了常说的“耳朵”之外，还有“穗”的意思。



“corn”可以指玉米，也可以指谷物或者谷粒，包括小麦、玉米、燕麦、大麦等。
